Each beach sand textured ring is handmade by me in my workshop in Cornwall near Lands End, made using ancient techniques and sand from a beach of your choice.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN SAND
I can use sand from one or multiple beaches of your choice, from anywhere in the world (as long as you can get me the sand!).
I have a good selection of different Cornish (including Isles of Scilly) beach sand ready to be used.
If I don't have the sand from your desired Cornish beach and you are unable to get it, let me know (any excuse for a beach visit!).

All of the sand textured items of jewellery are bespoke, and can be made to your personal specification.
If beach sand is not your thing, why not send me a bit of grit from your favourite coast path or somewhere else precious to you.
I have textured items of jewellery using crushed up pieces of granite from someones house, to bits of grit from the Peak District.

Ancient techniques & natural materials
MY CREATION PROCESS
Fortunately for me this starts with a walk along the beach to find a washed up cuttlefish bone! Once cleaned and dried the bone is ready to make a mould from, which is an ancient technique of casting that dates back hundreds of years.
I then hand carve or press the shape I want to cast into the cuttlefish bone, and add the beach sand (or alternative material) that will transfer the unique texture to the metal. I can create lighter or heavier textures as desired by the customer. Some people also like to have a mixture of the natural cuttlefish texture (from the growth lines of the cuttlefish) together with the sand texture.
I then melt the chosen metal type and pour it into the mould, before apprehensively (it doesn't always work!) opening the mould to see how it has cast. You only get one shot at this type of casting, as the cuttlefish bone can only withstand the temperature of the molten metal for a single casting. So if it is not successful I have to start over, making a new cuttlefish bone mould from scratch.
Once I have a casting that I am happy with, I clean it up and start cutting, shaping, sanding, and finishing until it is ready to be sent for hallmarking at the Birmingham Assay Office. Once returned I give the item a final finish before it is collected by or sent to the customer.

All my Cornish beach sand textured items are made using sustainable eco friendly recycled metals.
Available in sterling silver, solid 9ct, 14ct, and 18ct yellow, white, and rose gold.
All items are hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office in the UK.
